Powerful, professional, yet accessible 3D modeling software
With the rise of computer-aided design software or CAD, designers would have to go through the trouble of creating scale models from physical materials. Now, they can just use CAD software like SketchUp to save time and expenses. SketchUp is easily the most readily available CAD software in the market today, and it even has a Free option for new users to check out. However, for users who would like to take their modeling to the next level, getting a professional license is a good idea. SketchUp Pro 2015 has just as much to offer as SketchUp’s latest free versions.
A Brief Introduction to SketchUp
SketchUp is CAD software that provides users with tools to create 3D models using their computers. It can be used in any industry that requires 3D models including architecture, animation, multimedia arts, engineering, and more. It was originally conceived and released by @Last Software in 2000. In 2006, @Last Software was acquired by Google. Nowadays, the software is being developed by Trimble after it was acquired from Google in 2012.
SketchUp has several editions available for the users to choose from depending on their specific needs. SketchUp Pro 2015 is SketchUp’s 2015 release for professional use. As such, it has a lot of features that are specifically designed to cater to professionals and are not available in the free personal editions.
SketchUp Pro 2015 Features
While both the Free and Pro versions of Sketchup are capable of building and geo-locating 3D models, only the pro version can import and export CAD files. Pro 2015 can also be used to create, import, and export IFC files. More rendering styles are also available to the Pro 2015 user. For Geo-located models, Terrain and Satellite Imagery can also be used in the project.
Pro 2015 users also have more tools to work with such as better film cameras and solid modeling tools. However, the most important feature of any SketchUp Pro edition is that it can be licensed commercially which means users aren’t limited to the non-profit personal use that Free editions are constrained by.
A Solid Design and Modelling Software
There’s a reason why SketchUp continues to be popular despite being up against stiff competition and changing developer hands several times. Though it has a rather steep learning curve, it’s still simple in comparison to the other titles on the market. It’s perfect for users dealing with architecture and interior design. It’s also a great choice for those who are just starting out. If you’re not sure which CAD software to use, SketchUp Pro 2015 is a good choice.
