2D and 3D CAD program
SketchUp Pro is a computer aided design software for professional and personal use. The graphic design application lets you make 2D and 3D models. The program is popular for architects, engineers, interior designers, etc. Sketch Up free is only available online whereas SketchUp Pro is available online and in a desktop application.
AutoCAD, FreeCAD, and LibreCAD are additional drafting applications. AutoCAD is often considered the industry standard. FreeCAD and LibreCAD are free home design software solutions whereas AutoCAD needs a paid subscription. AutoCAD, FreeCAD, and SketchUp let you draw in 2D and 3D while LibreCAD only includes 2D functionality.
Is SketchUp Pro free?
SketchUp Pro is not free for professional use. A free edition of Sketch Up online is available for personal purposes. The payment plans are paid annually. The subscription packages are available to look at on the official website.
The developers of SketchUp are Trimble. You can use SketchUp on Apple Mac and Microsoft Windows PC computers and laptops. A mouse with a scroll wheel is recommended. The orbit, pan, and zoom buttons in the toolbar let you navigate the 3D workspace. You can quickly mimic the navigation commands with a three-button mouse.
You can hold the scroll button down while moving your mouse to navigate around the model. You can pan the view horizontally and vertically by holding the scroll and shift buttons down at the same time. The scroll button lets you easily zoom in and out on your model.
Is SketchUp Pro worth the money?
SketchUp Pro is worth the money for professional purposes since the user interface is user friendly. Sketch Up Pro lets you quickly draft designs with keyboard shortcuts. The UI is intuitive to use. The home screen includes templates that you can choose from to start creating. The units of measurement will be listed beneath the template titles.
You can launch recent files on the home page. An ‘Open file’ button lets you select a project from your PC. Your licensing information is available to review in the home screen. Your workspace will appear after you select a template or file to start editing. Your standard menu bar will line the top of the UI.
The ‘File’ tab lets you export, import, open, print, save, etc. The toolbars are highly customizable. You can drag and drop the tools to wherever you want on the screen. You can add or remove tools from the bars by right clicking on the empty space in the toolbar. A list will appear to let you select and unselect sets of tools.
The sections can be rearranged. You can change the icon images to either large or small sizes. A library of third-party extensions is available in the Extension Warehouse. Both free and paid extensions are available to install. The default tray is a docked window that lets you manage your model. You can expand and minimize the various tabs.
The ‘Window’ area in the menu bar lets you add or remove items from the default tray. You can move the default tray around your workspace by dragging and dropping the window. A status bar will be at the bottom of the UI to give you instructions. The status bar delivers updates in real time to let you know what to do next.
Do professionals use SketchUp?
Both professionals and beginners use SketchUp to create 2D and 3D designs. The keyboard shortcuts let you switch between tools by tapping letters on your keyboard. You can use the line command to draw straight lines.
The lines will change colors when you change the direction while you draw. The colors indicate whether you are on the axis or not. Three or more connected lines will create a face. The face will automatically be shaded in when all the lines are on the axis.
Advanced software that is easy
SketchUp Pro has a clean user interface. The status bar gives you tips while you work. Another common command is the push and pull button. Push and pull lets you make 3D structures by pulling faces up. You can push portions of your 3D designs out to remove parts of your structures.
New updates are constantly being added to SketchUp Pro to make the user experience better. SketchUp Pro includes virtual reality technology. An augmented reality mobile viewer lets your drafts interact with the real world.
